Describe:
My piece is made out of layers of paper towels and two top coats of burlap. Every layer was soaked in a glue and water mixture to make it hard and form the shape of a human head, obviously not by magic, but by a mannequin. It resembles a creepy character's mask with cross stitched eye holes, a wired mouth, and a stitched coreset back. The creases add dimension to the piece, so it doesn't look flat and boring. Analyze: This piece is cohesive because of the mediums used; they represent the character in the art well and add depth to the piece. It is also balanced visually and nothing is taking the spotlight. Interpret: The overall mood from my piece is horrific and almost a sense of being trapped. When I look at the mask I see a character that's been held within these skin tight burlap layers and is splitting at the seams. Judge: I believe my piece was successful! I started out very ambitious with this idea; it seemed like an easy task at first, but it definitely proved itself to be a challenge. You know it's not at a professional level but I would say for my first time making something like this, I hit it on the nail.
