Describe your piece as if you were talking to someone on the phone.
My piece is an in the round piece that represents self harm. It is a standing sculpture, where on one side a hand is meshing into the surface and there are cuts covering the other side. The piece is all white except for the red glaze dripping from the top where it gets smeared along the way down. Explain your process to make this piece. I first made clay molds of both sides of my hand. Then I put paper towels on the inside and closed the molds together. After this I carved the shape down and placed it on top of a slab of clay. Then I added clay to smooth the connection between the hand and the slab. When the piece got to a leather hard stage I used scissors to cut slits on the side of the piece. The piece was then fired. When I added the glaze, I let it drip down from the top and then I rinsed it under the sink before letting it dry. Then it was fired again. How is your piece inspired by the NCMA piece? My piece displayed emotion through a hand in 3D, just like my selected NCMA piece. Both of the pieces used a hand position where tension was created. Do you feel like your piece, inspired by the NCMA artwork is successful why or why not? While I do believe it still conveyed the message I was going for, it did not show enough detail in the hand for it to be "successful". I believe the action of the hand is unclear because of that.
